What is an aftermovie and when do you need one?

An aftermovie is a short film that shows the atmosphere and highlights of an event after it has taken place. You see them for festivals, markets, rides and village fairs, but also for company events and trade shows.

What do you use an aftermovie for?

  • A recap for visitors. People like to share it and relive the event.
  • Promoting the next edition. Footage convinces faster than a text about how great it was.
  • Conversations with sponsors and partners. You show what they support.
  • Social media. Short vertical variants work well for Reels and TikTok.

What makes a good aftermovie?

A good aftermovie is short, has a clear rhythm and shows what makes your event special: the location, the people, the details. Music and editing set the pace. Drone and FPV footage can show the scale of an event, for example a busy market or a festival site from above.

How to prepare as an organiser

  1. Decide what you want to use the film for and on which channels it will appear.
  2. List the moments that must be filmed, such as the opening, performances or the prize ceremony.
  3. Tell the videographer where they may film and who their contact person is.
  4. Agree on the formats you need, for example landscape for YouTube and vertical for social media.
  5. Think about music: it can involve rights, so discuss in advance which music will be used.
